Do Something for No Reason
A practice for unstrategic joy, movement without motive, and letting the wind choose the direction.
Hi friends,
It’s Roam week! The part of the month where we wander off the path on purpose. Here’s a creative-contemplative experiment to help make the theme of the month feelable, in your body, your life, your weird art projects.

Last week, we explored the Wisdom of Effortlessness: that spontaneous momentum that moves through us when we loosen the knots of hustle culture, achievement jealousy, and the compulsive need to outpace everyone else.
This week’s practice is a wind tunnel for that wisdom. Try it on for size:
Roam: Do Something for No Reason
Do one thing today (or every day this week!) with absolutely no strategic purpose.
We’re not making content. We’re not monetizing it. We’re not mining it for psychological insight, or optimizing it for personal growth.
We’re just doin it because it wants to be done. A little breeze that blows around you, through you, and lifts you into effortless action.
While you’re doing it, stay curious and present, like watching magic unfold.
Some Ideas:
Take a walk with no destination. Follow whatever beckons at each corner.
Write a page of a short story no one will ever see.
Pull out your kid’s crayons and draw with the abandon and commitment of a 5-year-old. Really giv’er 🎨
Get in the car and sing your lungs out while driving nowhere at all.
Cook the most impractical, mouthwatering thing you can imagine.
Lie down and let awareness become a fly on the wall of your mind: watch all the weird and noisy things that come and go in the space of the mind, as if you were watching birds and bugs and clouds in the sky.
Though it may feel like passivity at first, what you’re actually doing is giving space for a deeper intelligence to take the reins; a wisdom that acts without a rigid plan.
As you go, you might notice a soft confidence surfacing. A trust in your timing. A joy that doesn’t need to prove itself.
And if control or doubt creeps in, lean back into the feeling of wind: it just flows, loosely, confidently, ungraspingly. It moves in perfect harmony with the environment.
Let me know in the comments what happens!
And if you want to take this deeper, join me for the Moonlit Sit next week—same theme, more space to explore. See you there.
❤️ Tasha
P.S. Huge thanks to everyone who came to mine and Jeff’s sold-out daylong retreat this weekend! It was a joy to meet so many of you in person (and confirm you’re not just floating Zoom heads 😍).

Yasssssss! 🙌
Ugh. My default mode network is underused. I stared at a blank page, observing increasing anxiety and frustration, and then I just gave up and decided to dance instead. 🙄 Funny how liberating it is to be so terrible at something that you have no expectations of yourself!
