I have a friend who used to live on Euclid, and I loved that little bar! You've beautifully articulated the joy of being alone in a lightly people-y space (crowd=ick for me), but I usually only indulge in that particular joy when I'm travelling for work. Why do I never do that at home?? I'm going to head to my local this week, and notice/observe with my eyes open. ;-)
Aw just lovely! Thank You for making this connection! 🙏 I too enjoy my local establishment to sit passively in the presence of warm bodies and taking in the randomness of life from other angles. Often times I contemplate whether this is mindful behavior or a guilty pleasure that I sink into in times of loneliness, however, you so elegantly expressed a side of it that involves full ownership of the present. Thank you sooo much for your insight!
Big headphones, you're a genius! I even have a pair that I got from the local Dollar General for twenty bucks (they're really good--even better than my daughter's that cost about 100 bucks more!). Sometimes even just opening my windows helps me feel a little connected, but I'm going to give the big earphones a go, even if just to sit outside (baby steps are good, too, right?); thanks for the tip! ❤️
I so love your writing
